Experimental study of combustion noise level in LTC engine

چکیده مقاله:

In recent years, promising methods have been used to increase thermal efficiency, reduce nitrogen oxide and particle matter, which can be described as an example of an ethanol fuelled HCCI engine. But despite the many benefits of these engines, they continue to face problems such as increasing carbon monoxide production, unburned hydrocarbon, and producing combustion noise at high loads. In this paper, one single cylinder, air cooled, direct injection Yanmar diesel engine is converted to HCCI engine fuelled with ethanol. With using 38 steady state HCCI operating points at 1550 RPM, the variation of operating, combustion parameters and air pollution were studied with combustion noise level (CNL). The results indicate that the maximum pressure rise rate at lower combustion noise (CNL <85) does not increase significantly, but with increasing the maximum pressure rise rate of 4 bar/cad, CNL increases dramatically and reaches to the vibrational range of 90 dB which produces combustion noise. Also, the maximum in-cylinder pressure at 1550 rpm is 62 bar, with a limit of combustion noise of less than 90 dB.

Combustion process in a spark ignition engine: dynamics and noise level estimation.

We analyze the experimental time series of internal pressure in a four cylinder spark ignition engine. In our experiment, performed for different spark advance angles, apart from the usual cyclic changes of engine pressure we observed additional oscillations. These oscillations are with longer time scales ranging from one to several hundred engine cycles depending on engine working conditions. ...

Experimental Investigation of Surface Roughness Effect on Flow Boiling in Internal Combustion Engine Water Jacket

The subjects of heat transfer and cooling system are very important topics in the Internal Combustion Engines (ICE). In modern cooling systems, low weight, small size and high compactness are the critical designing criteria that requires heat transfer enhancement. Boiling phenomenon which is occurred in the water jacket of the ICE is one of the methods to increase heat transfer in the coolant s...

Experimental Investigation of Thermal Balance and Valve Cover Heat Transfer in a Small Internal Combustion Engine

Heat transfer in internal combustion engines is one of the most significant topics. Heat transfer may take place through thermal conduction and thermal convection in spark ignition engines. In this study, valve cover heat transfer and thermal balance of an air-cooled engine are investigated experimentally. The thermal balance analysis is a useful method to determine energy distribution and effi...

Engine-Level Simulation of Liquid Rocket Combustion Instabilities Transcritical Combustion Simulations in Single Injector Configurations

Detailed understanding of turbulent combustion in liquid rocket engines (LRE) requires an ability to predict the coupling between the transient features, acoustics, vortex/shear layer dynamics and the unsteady combustion heat release. Conventional and ad hoc models that mimic or match one set of conditions but fail in another test case cannot be used for reliable predictions. This paper present...
